About Us
Every small business website should have a detailed page outlining the business history and clearly describe their place in the market. It should outline the point of difference between their competitors and offer reassuring, honest information to potential new customers.
We reccomend not placing this on the home page of a website, mainly because the homepage is 'prime real estate' for search engines and humans alike. Search engine results will often list the home page first and if you have SEO'd your home page for the sites main content you will detract from good search engine results if you just list your about us details on the home page.
It is good to add a picture of yourself, your team or a photo of your office, to increase clearly show the human or "real" side of your business. Don't just write your business address and phone number, leave that for your contact us page. But make the effort to spell out your strengths, what you do differently and why customers should choose you over your competitors.
Having a strong about us page gives visitors the opportunity to research your business before they purchase from you. Adding a few small customer feedback quotes or testimonials can reinforce the message you are putting forward.
A recent trend is to add your social networking links to your about us page, like twitter or facebook so that your new and existing customers can keep up to date with new developments, promotions or sales you may offer.
